WARNER HOME VIDEO Fathers' Day [1997]
Billy Crystal plays the straight man to neurotic Robin Williams when these two very different individuals join forces to find a runaway teenager. Both, you see, have been told they are the boy's father by Nastassja Kinski, with whom each had once been involved. This Disney production is based on the more humorous French farce, Les Compères, by Francis Veber (who cowrote this adaptation). It has its moments as breezy entertainment, but the plot is sloppy enough to seem more like slapstick than sophisticated comedy. The gags are contrived, and it fails to unfold with believability, or grace. More interesting than the writing are the performances, as Crystal brings surprising depth to his cynical lawyer and Williams is exceptionally fine-tuned as a suicidal and dippy writer with a very kind heart. --Rochelle O'Gorman, Amazon.com --This text refers to the VHS edition of this video

Profile Books Ltd Give Me My Father's Body: The Life of Minik, the New York Eskimo
At last returning to print, Give Me My Father's Body is the thought-provoking tale of Minik, a young Inuit boy brought to New York by Robert Peary around the turn of the 20th century. Told simply and interspersed with personal letters and newspaper clippings, the book examines Minik's life both as a cross-cultural meeting place and a deeply personal search for a place to call home. Photographs throughout of Minik give a glimpse into the incredible differences between the multiple worlds he inhabited, and how impossible it must have been to live in these worlds successfully. The title derives from one of Minik's more harrowing experiences--finding his father's bones displayed in a natural-history museum as a curiosity--and his attempts to retrieve the bones for a more respectful burial. Author Kenn Harper, while including many facts and articles about Arctic exploration, refrains from sharing opinions about the various explorers or their methods, choosing to share this story--and his years of research--plainly. From the death of Minik's birth father to the financial ruin of his American foster family, the events of Minik's childhood seem like one disaster after another, and his adulthood--the successful return to Greenland, followed by disappointment and a subsequent return to New York--is an unhappy struggle to find some kind of personal fulfillment. Questions of racial and cultural differences make an inescapable larger framework for Minik's life, and the emotions brought forward in answering those questions make reading this book a powerful experience. --Jill Lightner

Headline Book Publishing Ltd Fathers, Sons and Football
In Fathers, Sons and Football Colin Shindler, Manchester City fan and author of the bestselling Manchester United Ruined My Life, tells the funny, engaging story behind the unique footballing treble of one of Maine Road's favourite families--the Summerbees. Grandfather, father and son each became professional players and Shindler reflects on their careers, family life and the changing face of football and Britain from the 1930s to the present day.
Of these three footballing Summerbees, father Mike--England and Man City in his heyday--was by far the biggest star. Enough to have been George Best's best man and in his pomp a robust, rampaging outside right who delighted fans on the pitch and for a time lived a full-on 1960s superstar life off it. Grandfather George was a journeyman player, struggling to scrape out a career amongst the game's also-rans. Mike took the Summerbees into the big time. It was left to son Nicky to carry the mantle into the modern era.

The signing of Nicky Summerbee ... seemed to suggest that a second version of the glory years for City was just around the corner. Manchester would soon echo to the sound of rival chants as the two clubs battled for the status of top dog ... Only Tina Summerbee had the foresight to dismiss all this as nothing but the fantasies of vainglorious men. Of course, by her own admission, she was a woman who knew nothing about the game.
<p& g
